Basketball enthusiasts ages 10-17 can come learn from professional basketball coach Raphael Chillious and COMO Pro Skills Trainer TJ Faeth during a two-hour skill development clinic at the Stonington Community Center on Saturday, July 1 from 1 to 3 p.m. The clinic will include ball handling, shooting, decision making, and mentorship. [Stonington, CT] - Jill Corr, Board Chair of The Stonington COMO, has announced that Dr. Matthew Haugen will commence as Executive Director on May 25, 2023, replacing Beth Stewart, who retired on March 28, following a ten-year career with the organization.
Dr. Haugen, an alumnus of Kenyon College with a bachelor’s degree in political science, holds a PhD from The University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where he was a Fulbright Scholar in Kinesiology, Cultural, Interpretive and Science Studies. Stonington, CT – The Stonington Community Center (COMO) is excited to announce that in conjunction with its newly renovated state-of-the-art DecoTurf tennis courts, it has partnered with Mystic Indoor Sports (MIS) to provide professionally instructed tennis programs.
The renovated COMO tennis courts are now open for the 2018 tennis season. As part of the project, the courts were resurfaced with DecoTurf, a resilient multi-layered Pfizer’s Groton Laboratories will support 67 programs in Southeastern Connecticut, the greater New Haven area, and southern Rhode Island through its 2017 competitive grants program.
Priority was given to programs that bring science and math to students from elementary through high school. Additional awards were made for programs that provide for the underserved or to support local civic and cultural institutions.

The existing courts are over 30 years old and are in poor playing condition.
The COMO also announced that it has already raised over $265,000 for the project from private contributions.
